Turtle Cat Toys

I worked on a bunch of sketches for Sport Pet and then I saw them turned into a cat toy at Target!

Often what I'm asked to do is come up with lots of product ideas and sketch them out for the in house team to think about. This one was for a molded rubber cat toy with a Mylar film crinkle feature. I came up with all sorts of different things that might look cute and Sport Pet ended up making the turtle. I don't always know what gets made as it's a long process that I'm usually just a part of the beginning of, but it's always fun to see a sketch made real.

They did send me a sample of the jellyfish too, but I'm not sure if that went into production.

Fiesta Dress fix

Original Tunic
My friend Dana is getting married at the end of July and I'm one of her many bridesmaids. Dana is from New Mexico like myself,  so the wedding theme is Mexican fiesta,  even though it will be taking place in Seattle.  All the bridesmaids will be wearing embroidered Mexican dresses in a rainbow of colors. I ordered mine here.  Even though it was a pueblo style blouse,  I checked the measurements and the one I ordered seemed long enough to be a dress.
It arrived with none of the stated measurements accurate,  so it was too short to be dress.  I didn't want to deal with sending it back, so I altered it.  I knew I wouldn't be able to match the purple fabric perfectly,  so I chose a lighter shade of purple to accent the embroidered yoke and skirt.  Elastic in the back waistband gathers in the fabric and lets me still get it on by pulling it over my head.  I added a sash because I really like sashes.

Lazy Llamas

After getting some nice live feedback from people passing by my table at Stumptown, I've got to say that the Llama plush were, by far, the most popular. At the beginning of my design research, I checked out some llama toys in standing positions, but I really wanted to make one in a lying down pose. Instead of going with a natural pose of legs curled up underneath I designed them to be sprawled out. I like the way the floppy pose turned out, plus having the legs out make the pattern that much easier to assemble.
Here are some of the sketches I did while getting into the llama state of mind.

Make your own llamas with the pattern available in my store
I also have a couple for sale on etsy.
